Why We Serve | First Responders Sunday
What does it really mean to serve like Jesus?
In this message from Mark 10:35–45, Pastor Jeff Schwarzentraub challenges us to rethink greatness, leadership, and what it means to follow Christ. Jesus didn’t come to be served—He came to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.
True servanthood comes with a cost. It means choosing sacrifice over status, counting the cost of suffering, and being willing to run toward the needs God places in front of us. Instead of asking, “What can I get?” followers of Jesus are called to ask, “Who can I serve?”
Pastor Jeff shares four powerful truths about biblical servanthood:
• Pursue sacrifice rather than status
• Count the cost of suffering and death
• Run immediately to meet the need
• Surrender to the One who gave His life for you
Jesus is the ultimate example of a servant. He saw our greatest need, came on the ultimate rescue mission, and gave His life so that anyone who repents and believes in Him can be forgiven and have eternal life.
If you follow Jesus, servanthood isn’t just something you do—it should mark the way you live.
Where is God showing you a need?
Who has He placed in front of you to serve?
And are you willing to run toward it?
